X-Men Days of Future Past Spoiler Free Movie Review
First off the major difference between this one and the comic book is that the comic is more focused on Kitty Pryde and the movie more so on Wolverine. I think the reason for this is because Wolverine does so well with fans. He is also capable in the audience’s eyes of stopping the Sentinels.
As for the plot, Wolverine has to go back on time with the help of Pyde to 1973 to stop Mystic from killing Trask. This will only make him a martyr and she will be captured and her powers reverse engineered and used to create the Sentinels.
I’m extremely critical of the X-Men series because these mutants and the Watchmen were my absolute go-to as a kid. The best recreations have been the WB Fox animated series because they accurately sketched the characters and they kept to the comic book plots.
The first X-Men movie was utter nonsense.
In the second, things get better and now with this one you can pop the champagne.
Mystic stole the movie. I forgot Jennifer Lawrence played this character because she was forgettable in the first two. She needed to hit a certain level of badassary that only mutants can attain- and she nailed it on all fronts.
Magneto and Xavier’s acting is so on point that you believe their history and back story which is so key to the series. The push and pull between these two men who start as friends and then end up on opposite ends of the earth is a central theme.
My favorite scene in the movie is where Mystic attacks Trask and Wolverine, Xavier, and Magneto try to stop her. The reports and bystanders catch what’s going on and their face is just complete horror.
To a normal, functioning person there is nothing funny about the scene. To me, it was absolutely hilarious.
The ending sets up the plot for Apocalypse, who is an X-Men villain and a mutant. The end credits rolling into previews of the next film is just exciting, exciting, exciting.
In comparison to Winter’s Soldier, which do I like better? Oh, Days of Future Past– hands down! I grew up with these mutants and Rose and Gambit are two of my all time favorites, so I’m more drawn to X-Men. It’s not to say that Winter’s Soldier is bad, but X-Men is so rich in characters that I don’t see how Captain can compare.
