Vlogmas Day 8: The Zoella Scandal
What the heck is a Zoella and did she write a book? I had to find out who ZoZoBoo was before I could even start digging into the bookgate controversy. Zoe Sugg is a beauty vlogger. Through 99% of her videos, she talks about makeup and candles and flowers and more makeup- but I’d never seen any mention of writing or books she likes to read. If you like to write then you like to read and most people that read are on Goodreads. Nope, no mention of any.
You know how you can tell someone is a writer? Check their Twitter. Yes, I said Twitter. Not Facebook and not Tumblr. Twitter. Twitter is short and sweet and it drives writers crazy because you have 140 character to get your sentiment and grammar right. If the majority of your tweets are, “Yay, having funz, omg this day,” you’re not a writer because language means more to you than those words.
Here’s what I can tell you about vlogging. When you make videos- especially the day in the life vlogs- if you’re writing, that’s going to come out. Not in every video but in passing and definitely if you’re procrastinating. Someone like ITalkToSnakes talks about writing, so if she came out with a book no one would be shocked.
But honestly, a writer writes. Doesn’t matter where. You’ll find a place to throw up your words. A writer is constantly writing, for themselves, because the words have to come out of you. They have to go live somewhere outside of your brain.

In other news along the lines of Zoella's book being ghostwritten, water is wet and the Pope is Catholic.

There are lots of Youtubers coming out with books next year. Take the whole I wrote this with a grain of salt. I’m more shocked that anyone would believe that someone wrote a book without actually seeing them write before. It’s sad, but it’s true. Most of these people are selling a product- even if it comes from the throne of lies.
Even with all this being said, here’s the truth- Zoella sold all those books because people like Zoella. It was Zoella endorsed and that’s all her fans really wanted. A book about Zoe for Zoe fanatics written by a ghost. Maybe her ghostwriter will have a ghostwriter for the sequel.
