My Daddy

I’ve always been a lucky girl. Lucky that I don’t post naked photos on Instagram, lucky that I’m kind to shitty people, and just an average happy, bubbly person. I realize that luck has nothing to do with it. I come from good stock. I have a father that taught me not to Keep up with the Joneses, value education, and never care what anyone thought about me. I was always that odd girl in school who never had any sense of fashion, but was funny and smart-just like my daddy. I look at some girls on Twitter, with their bikini pics as a profile badge. My father would throw a t-shirt at you. I look at these girls on Facebook, posting how horrible their boyfriends treat them. My father would have taught you to choose wiser. I look at these girls on Tumblr chasing guys who are two girlfriends deep. My father would have taught you that there are plenty of fish in the sea.

I think for a girl- to have a father, uncle, grandfather, step-dad, whoever, is beyond invaluable. These men teach us not to jump in bed with the first loser. They teach us that we’re not cheerleaders- we’re quarterbacks. They teach us to be equals.

Chris Rock says, “A father’s job is to keep his daughter off the pole.”
Amen. Here’s to all the good dad’s out there.

Happy Father’s Day.
