You’ve Changed, Apple!

Back in the we-build-our-own-processor days, Apple was for nerds. Oh, there was definitely a fanboy crowd, but much different than the one you see today. Before the adoption of Intel, most of Apple’s base had been there from the inception. It use to be about being the best.

Now, here’s the problem with the smart crowd. They’re small in number. Remember when SciFi had actually science fiction shows and A&E had American Castles- basically back when I watched. I still refuse to call them SYFY. Now, look at the format. Reality tv and wrestling. Wider net. Even Doctor Who had changed so much during the Matt Smith years that they had to give us a Capaldi, Coleman pairing to keep the original nerd fan base happy. To insure it’s survival, they had to put a cute, funny, One Direction Doctor. Matt Smith was somewhat of an insult.

Same thing happened with Apple. Geeks are hard to please. We want the best, we don’t want to overpay. The slightest thing wrong, we tweet meet up dates for the riot. Intel Macs were predecessors to the mobile operating. Dumb it down and overcharge.

Apple is at 18.3% market share. Right behind Samsung. They just recently just gave the S6 a redesign while taking away the SD card. My theory was their numbers would suffer. Guess who’s beating Apple at their own game. Build for the masses and pass the collection plate because everything else is niche.
